Oh well :( As for volitional, thinking of it as plain ましょう finally got it into my head, but doing it at full speed just takes lots, and lots, of practice. URGH. I learned (and hated) volitional form last semester. I don't seem to ever really use it in my Japanese class either (maybe it's because we only rarely speak casually). As for Kanji, only solution to learning it is, unfortunately, repetition. Your Japanese program seems pretty hardcore; how many new ones (Kanji) are you assigned every week/2weeks/month? Ugh.
