I’m going to come out and say it right now – there is no way in words I can express my love for this city. Utterly breath taking and majestic, I could write a blog update every day for the rest of my life about this place. So right now, I’m playing about with the idea of making a few slideshows of my favourite pictures, then talking over them and posting them, instead of posting huge long updates which take hours to load. At the same time I know a lot of people read this blog at work so I may write it but post Flash slideshows. Either way, here’s a few photos that Yukiko, who took a whole day out of her schedule to show me around, took with my old camera. Those desperate to see how bad I am with my new one will have to wait a bit longer yet!
If I had to sum up my trip in a paragraph or two, I’d say the best two aspects of my trip were the Japanese zen gardens and the people I met at the hostel. I’m going to write seperate updates about both of them (although I only went to two zen gardens, trust me when I say this is worth it…) but I think this city has made me realise how awful living in Tokyo is when I could be living in Kyoto. I’m so determined to travel more this half of the year.
Anyway, it’s back to school now for some ceremony and what looks like a whole day of cleaning. Why me.

Sorry to say it, but Kyoto is a horrible cusp of what it once was – the station alone is a horrible symbol of how much the city has suffered at the hands of the government. Still, the few remaining areas are quite nice.
If you want some travel tips Shikoku (also has the Shorinji Hombu!) and Chiba are good to look around :)
Leon: No way, I loved the place. So unspoiled in comparison to Tokyo, and that’s all I ask… ;)
