Howls of disbelief and sorrow could be heard when I announced in this update that I had no photos of me in my Shorinji Kempo kit. It’s just as well then that Leon came along to Saturday training to take lots of embarrasing photos!
Before you laugh, remember that I could kill you. If you stood very still and allowed me to shout out “Ichi! Ni! San!” whilst I tried to hit you.
This is me locked in furious battle with Tomomi-san. She foolishly thinks that by knowing all the moves of Shorinji and being very very good at it, she can defeat me. She would be right if it wasn’t for my secret weapon - my armspan.
This is me getting the move we had worked on just last week entirely wrong. But I can do it now! So that’s OK! Right?! Hey, don’t look at me like that!
Well, that’s it. Sorry it took so long to get these photos to materialize, and I’m fully aware I haven’t updated in a few days. I’m working on an update about Setsubun, which is the beans festival. BEANS!

High-res, in-focus, properly balanced and brightly colored photos are available for sale… ah who am I kidding, I still suck at this photo thing :)
Happy you liked the few that turned out good!

Leon: Don’t you dare print any of these out, it’s harder to destroy all evidence of them on paper!
You’ll have to bring your camera again another week when the sun is out and we’re in the main hall again, that place is so depressing. (Although I do love the sponge floor…)

the 2nd photo.
on the 3rd row done made me laugh out loud.
very very funny photo.
and btw,
Setsubun isn’t the bean festival.
It may involve beans, but I’d personally say at the center was demons.
and luck.
yawn.
Toya is cold.
Tokyo waaaaaa?

Nate: It’s the look of pure boredom on Tomomi’s face that does it. But she loves training me really. She told me so!
Setsubun is indeed the demon/good luck festival but I like calling it the bean festival more. I can’t really end an update with DEMONS! can I?
Tokyo is pretty cold too, but I imagine Hokkaido is slightly chillier…

I did once learn Tae Kwon Do, which is a similar Korean martial art. Although I managed to get to green belt, any successful implementation would require, as you say, a great degree of patience and stillness on the part of my assailant.
I could never quite see how such exercises as “Dan Gun,” a complex series of movements resembling an aggressive and regimented game of charades, would terrify any muggers into fleeing.
Also, it’s unbelievably warm and sunny over here (almost worrying so). Still, I’d trade it for the coldness of Tokyo without hesitation.
P.S. I’ll send you some photos soon, as requested.

Funny how Leon seems to have been rather more focused on taking photos of the pretty girl than the missing Weasley brother, eh? ;)

I’ll be taking more of Mike and other Shorinji stuff this week - I want to create a really good Shorinji wiki on the internet to help people :)
